The province of Tucumán is between 26º and 28º parallels of south latitude and 64º 30¹ and 66º 30¹ meridians.
In a straight line, it is 335 miles (540 km) away from the Pacific coast, 652 miles (1,050 km) away from the mouth of the Plata River and 870 miles (1,400 km) away from the Atlantic Ocean.

Geographical Boundaries
It is bounded in the north by Salta, in the south and the west by Catamarca and in the east by Santiago del Estero.

Surface
The province of Tucumán encompasses a total surface of 8,696 sq. mi. (22,524 km2).
It is the smallest province in the country (it occupies an 0.8 per cent of the Argentine surface).

Demography
Its population is 1,142,247 inhabitants according to the last national census carried out in 1991. The demographic density is 131,35 inhabitants per square mile (50,71 per km2), the highest in the country.
Its capital is San Miguel de Tucumán.
