map of Tucumán political divisionLocated in the Argentine north-west, the province of Tucumán occupies a 4.8 per cent of the total surface of the region.

It is divided into 17 departments, which are: Capital, Trancas, Tafí del Valle, Tafí Viejo, Burruyacú, Cruz Alta, Lules, Famaillá, Monteros, Leales, Chicligasta, Simoca, Río Chico, Juan B. Alberdi, Graneros, La Cocha and Yerba Buena.

Each has dependent municipalities or rural communities when they are countryside areas with a small population.
