Animal
life is also very varied. Among domestic species are horses, mules
and cows, all of them of a great use to man.
Among
wild animal characteristic of the region are vizcachas, weasels,
wildcats, mulitas and quirquinchos (types of armadillos),
foxes, skunks, lizards, iguanas, turtles, frogs,
snakes of several kinds, rabbits, pumas and, in the high
regions, guanacos.
Among
birds are: owls, carrion hawks, hawks, teros, parrots,
benteveos, baker birds and a great many others.
Rivers
and dams are inhabited by: atherine, catfish, shad, trout,
dorado, tararira, etc.
Such is the abundance of Tucumán
fauna that it attracts the interest of hunters and fishermen, these two activities
being very widespread sports.
