NICOLÁS AVELLANEDA
Argentine
jurist, journalist and statesman born in Tucumán, in 1836, in the
house now carrying his name (in the first block of Congreso street). He died in
1885, at 43.
In 1874 he was
elected President of the Republic and under his administration he was able
to pacify the country and approach a solution to the serious crisis it was suffering.
During his administration, he also made the railroad reach Tucumán.
He was a National Senator, congressman
and head of the University, and also author of several literary pieces,
among which are La Asamblea del Año 1813 (The 1813 Assembly) and
Tierras del Dominio Público (Public Domain Lands).
