Population: Native people and immigrants
If you study the
demographic history of Tucumán, it becomes evident that the ethnic constitution
of its inhabitants was formed by the aggregation of whites, "natives" or Indians,
blacks and mestizoes.
The white factor, until around mid-19th century,
was basically brought by Spaniards. As to the immigratory contribution of late
19th century, it may be considered little significant from the quantitative point
of view, although relevant because of its cultural connotations.
The
populational pattern which even today leaves its trace on demography was thus
built. The physiognomic traits basically retain the above ingredients, including
a prevalence of dark skin, although lightened by successive European contributions.
